“Challenged” artists for challenging times
Renewing the Renaissance --a fine art company based in Silicon Valley—opened for business June 1 . Employing artists with “challenges,” ranging from high functioning autism to medical challenges like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Renewing the Renaissance (RTR ) is dedicated to providing creative jobs with employee benefits to challenged adults. The stunning art they create is made available in unique ways to individuals and companies alike. The artists live across the country and their art is available via RTR’s website worldwide. Art patrons can purchase an already completed sculpture or painting(a “gallery” work) or work with an art manager and artist to commission a unique piece of artwork for themselves, or as a gift
at the website at www.RenewingTheRenaissance.com.
Companies can create award sculptures, or recognize an employee ‘s critical contribution
with an award of a commissioned painting. All the details about RTR’s one-of-a-kind Company program can be found on www.renaissancerenewed.com.
RTR’s vision is a modern version of the Renaissance. Throughout the Renaissance, artists had patrons that kept them in business; it’s only recently that the relationship has broken off, leaving artists with few choices as to employment. Renewing the Renaissance is working to bring that centuries-old relationship to the 21st century, with purchases of individual and company art patrons providing jobs and benefits for artists with challenges. Now these artists will no longer defined or held back by their conditions.
The idea for Renewing the Renaissance began after the President and Founder’s daughter, who is autistic, graduated from high-school. “I became aware that our society has yet to develop an effective way to integrate post-high school challenged adults into society, either financially or socially, so that they are able to live meaningful lives. Significant under-employment or even unemployment is the likely result. RTR was started to develop and illustrate an effective model focused on challenged adults’ individual strengths, that provides management and mentorship around their weaknesses. I decided a business of challenged adults who are exceptionally gifted artists made the most sense,” says Phil Shemanski.
And look for RTR’s ‘Creation Chronicle’ too, their modern addition to the art process. They accompany each sculpture or painting a patron acquires!
